Those who have actually used the services are more confident; 43% think that the activity involves risk, while 52% do not see the activity as dangerous.

Meanwhile, the share of 55- to 64-year-olds who use online dating has doubled over the same time period (from 6% in 2013 to 12% in 2015).

For young adults in particular, this overall increase in online dating usage has been accompanied by a dramatic increase in the use of mobile dating apps.

Only 7.5% of LGB singles believe sexual orientation is determined by experience alone.In a separate question, 6% of online daters say that dating websites do an “excellent” job of protecting people’s personal information, while 32% say they do a “good” job.Another 33% rate the services as “fair” and 12% say the websites do a “poor” job of protecting their information. "Nearly half of the LGBTQ population in America identifies as single, and a vast majority of these singles, some 80 percent, are seeking a committed relationship.By expanding our annual Singles in America study to include more people of diverse identities, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans, we are beginning to address these knowledge gaps to better understand singles today." The study surveys a representative sample of over 1,000 LGBTQ singles between the ages of 18 to 70 across , who are not currently in a committed relationship.
